Training & Background

Qualifications:FRCP FFSEM PgCert(Ultrasound) MSc(Oxf) D.Phil (MD; PhD)
Year first qualified:2006
GMC number:6152298
Clinic times: By appointment

Dr Kluzek initially qualified in medicine from the Medical University of Warsaw. He then came to the UK for foundation training, with a focus on internal medicine.

During this time, Dr Kluzek helped to set up and run a cardiopulmonary exercise test service in a local hospital. An experience which led to further specialist training, in sports and exercise medicine.

In addition to rotations in rheumatology, orthopaedics and sports medicine, he completed an MSc in Musculoskeletal Sciences at Oxford University.

Following this, he undertook a four year fellowship, culminating in a doctoral thesis on the inflammatory response of joint injuries and early osteoarthritis. Constantly building knowledge to help his patients and his profession.

After his doctoral fellowship, Dr Kluzek was appointed as an Academic Clinical Lecturer and Clinician Scientist at Oxford University. In 2018, he was admitted to the GMC’s Specialist Register for Sport and Exercise Medicine.

In 2019, Dr Kluzek was appointed as an Associate Professor and Senior Sports Physician at the UK Sport Institute. He supports Olympic and Paralympic athletes, including those attending intensive rehabilitation and high performance units.

Dr Kluzek has supported teams at Olympic and Paralympic games. He has also served as medical officer for professional football and rugby teams, including Oxford University Blues, along with supporting GB Hockey and the England & Wales Cricket Board.

The unique skills this experience brings are welcomed by his patients. To treat knee, ankle, or shoulder injuries, early osteoarthritis, tendinopathies, bone stress fractures, metabolic problems, concussion, or lowered performance.

Above all, he puts each patient at the centre of diagnostic and treatment decisions, aiming to restore enjoyment in being active and athletic.

Research & Teaching

During his time at Oxford University, Dr Kluzek has led research on the progression of osteoarthritis and the early detection of functionally important markers.

Further research has included identifying pathways for early joint degeneration, poor cardiovascular health, and cognitive decline. The focus is often on how injuries and illnesses affect the active population and the consequences they bring.

His research has provided new insights into osteoarthritis, from the effect of the early environment to treatments for established disease. He has contributed to clinical trials defining the benefit of new, therapeutic interventions in musculoskeletal conditions.
